W6TER - Gerry Smith

  • Be sure to specify "Multiple yagi antennas" on work permit to keep from restricting future upgrades to antennas
  • Sandy Fish (Sanford Fish) is the lead person who would be approving work permits
  • Do not put any ground rods at base of tower
  • First ground rods out 10' from tower, w 2 more additional out every 10'
  • Use 10' ground rods
  • Use #2 solid wire
  • Use 2" copper stripping with copper wire - simply lay in trench with wire and ground rods
  • Connect each ground line to a leg of the tower - use stainless steel foil between tower leg and copper wire and 2" copper stipping
  • Use coax grounding bar at base of tower - will need to strip 2" section of coax and weather proof
    • ICE product (NOTE - ask Gerry for vendor again)
  • Use PolyPhaser surge protectors at entrance of shack
  • Protect data and control lines (Ask Gerry again for type/model)
  • Ground rod(s) at entrance of shack
  • Use box for access and grounding - run 2" strapping from bench to box and outside to ground rods
  • Connect ground system to utility ground - need not be #2 can be #12
  • Suggested I move tower from SW corner to front of house closer to NE corner to allow for more room for ground system
  • Connect ground system for 30' and 55' tower together
  • Get static discharge crown for 55' tower - stainless steel sharpened rods in a "duster configuration"
