My Flight Simulator Cockpit

I would like to build a flight simulator. Something that would allow me to simulate the procedureal as well as the visual part of flying. I would like to provide guages, throttle/mixture, flaps, electrical, and avionics. It would be nice to not have to rely on the keyboard or the in-sim 2D/3D cockpit for any functionality.

At minimum I would like to be able to build a functional Cessna 172 simultator, this being the most likely aircraft I would train in. If possible, I also would like the design to be flexible enough to support any of the most likely multi engine planes I my train in.

Currently (2006/1/29), I am using Flight Simulator 2004 with CH Products Yoke, pedels, and throttle quadant. I am displaying to a single monitor, while using a second monitor for displaying external windows for plug-ins (MyTraffic, FSUIPC, Jeppesen SIMCharts, etc.).

Selected Technology

Tech I'm leaning towards and why. If you don't agree with me or have comments please email me at pascal@pascal.org.

TechComments
PhidgetsUSB based interface cards. At the moment (2006/1/29) seems to be the most flexible and cost effective solution for interfacing controls. Also has support for Linux.
FSUIPCPretty much the defacto way to interface with FS2004.
LCD GuagesAllows for reconfiguring cockpit for multiple aircraft. Doesn't suffer from the engineering deficiencies of some guage manufacturers.
